Register with Birth Ready
Birth Ready is exclusively available to graduates of the Hartland College School of Midwifery Christian Childbirth Educator and Doula certification course (I'm sorry, no exceptions). As a graduate of Hartland's program, you are invited to join me in creating a Christian brand of childbirth preparation classes that can someday rival well-known brands that exist today. You would of course operate under your own business name, but you would offer Birth Ready classes to your clients.
What's included in the Birth Ready Teacher Kit?
What preparation is needed to implement the Birth Ready series?
- You need to make your own detailed script for the lessons, but the parent handouts have been designed to cover the critical points of the lesson. Technically, you could teach off of them as long as you know all your background information, which I am trusting you do since you successfully completed the course. For example: In the lesson plan for the class, Know Your Options, I tell you to explain the slippery slope process of interventions for low risk women. I give you a diagram to use on the board. But, I don't tell you exactly what to say. However, the Your Birth Plan handout describes a lot of decisions women must make in checklist form. You can use the handout to talk about how one choice may lead to another intervention choice that must be made.
- You must make a local community resource directory and bereavement directory. Use this as an opportunity to build your professional network. These directories will help you be the go-to-person for your students on where to find other relevant services (lactation consultants, bereavement photography, etc.). I have a detailed outline telling you exactly what resources you need to gather.
- Finally, you obviously need to gather the suggested materials needed for each class. Note: I tried to keep it as slim as possible. The main tool is a whiteboard. But, there are a couple of specialty items I suggest you invest in, namely, a birth anatomy poster or model set and a breastfeeding latch model. Other items needed can easily be collected at a local big box store like Walmart.
- You are responsible for advertising your classes locally.
